The Cinematic Highlights of December 2014

For the last month of the year, I wanted to go out with a bang. However, due to a new, busy job and other personal reasons I only managed to watch eight new films. However, I also watched the third season of The Legend of Korra and about 13 episodes of Cowboy Bebop. So yeah, here are all the films that I watched this month:

  1. Calvary (John Michael McDonagh, 2014)
  2. White Christmas (Michael Curtiz, 1954)
  3. A Christmas Tale (Arnaud Desplechin, 2008)
  4. Black Nativity (Kasi Lemmons, 2013)
  5. The Giver (Phillip Noyce, 2014)
  6. Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn, 2014)
  7. Magic in the Moonlight (Woody Allen, 2014)
  8. Wish I Was Here (Zach Braff, 2014)

The last two are among the worst film I saw this year. Guardians and Giver are passable, but suffer from lack of creativity. The rest are good, with Calvary being one of the best films of 2014.

But in all honesty, The Legend of Korra stand out above the rest.

I won’t do awards this month, but I will say that Brendan Gleeson’s work in Calvary is perfection. Also, Magic in the Moonlight has outstanding cinematography, costumes, and production design. Shame about the film they are featured in

So, yeah, here’s hoping 2015 will be better.
