I also had a hard time coming up with a movie for this category, but not because there were too many choices or because there were a few ones that I couldn’t pick just one. If you were to look at my DVD collection, you’d find very few true action movies that don’t involve some sort of fantasy or historical element. It’s not that I don’t like action movies, I love seeing stuff blow up real good as much as the next guy, but there are not a lot of movies that made go “wow”. I thought about Die Hard, but I haven’t seen it since I was very young. There is also the Bourne trilogy, but I’m iffy on the first installment. In the end I came up with what I think is a solid choice for a favorite action movie. That movie is Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale.
I was never a fan of the Bond movies, but this one blew me away. There are a variety of reason why this happened. First, the action scenes are outstanding although there are very few of them. And since it didn’t have a lot of action, it had to rely on getting the thrills out of the most unlikely event: a poker game. Seriously, I never thought a game of cards could be so exciting. And of course, Daniel Craig is the greatest. This version of Bond has got the charm and the ruggedness that the character is famous for, as well this darker side to him. Craig handles all of this perfectly. His take on the character seriously made me hate my self, as I, or any man for that matter, could be as awesome as him. So, that’s why I love this movie.
Oh wait, there is also this lovely lady:
